Korea is well known for it’s elite skincare and spa treatments which are rooted in holistic wellness, often using natural ingredients and methods to optimise bodily function and improve skin barriers.
Being an amateur enthusiast and advocate for natural (but not premature) aging, I was very excited to see what K-beauty was all about. So upon arriving in Seoul I immediately booked a 90 minute spa experience that focused on circulation and lymphatic drainage.
The treatment started with a lower body massage which concentrated on the feet; a welcomed relief after walking over 10km a day since arriving in Seoul. After 30 minutes of relaxation and joint relief, the massage moved to focus on my face, neck and decolletage; draining the excess fluid from my body. The package also included an amazing skin treatment with a hydro facial that cleansed my skin like its never been cleansed before, and I must say the result left me speechless!
Having had facials in Australia before, I was always left feeling like there was no difference from when I entered. After dropping a few hundred dollars I was usually told that whilst my skin was hydrated, I suffered from redness, large pores and fine lines which needed ongoing expensive treatments involving painful lasers to fix my concerns.
After just one treatment in Korea I left with the glassy skin that you don’t believe is real when seen on social media.
My pores, redness and fine lines had magically vanished, and I walked out feeling both physically and mentally lighter. One week post-treatment and my skin still looks as good as when I had first left the spa.
*Please ignore my puffy eyes in this photo, this is a result of jetlag.

To round out the experience the fantastic facialists provided recommendations for skincare products I can incorporate into my daily routine at a minimal expense, all of which could be purchased at the local beauty franchise, Olive & Young, located around the corner. They also gave me a beautiful sheet mask to use straight after my long flight home, which would help to remove the oils and general yuckiness that covers your skin when on planes.
It’s safe to say that this is one of the best spa experiences I have ever had and I would strongly recommend to anyone visiting South Korea that they book in a treatment. It’s well worth dedicating a portion of your trip and investing the time in your selfcare, after all that is exactly what breaks from full time work are all about.
