Sweden Itinerary

January 2026

Graphic of an 'Eight Night Trip Overview' featuring a map of Sweden highlighting Stockholm and Lulea & Kalix with an airplane icon and dotted travel path.

The main reason we booked this trip was to hopefully see the Northern Lights, and of course explore a little more of what gives Sweden is scandi chic reputation. We are happy to report that we witnessed the Northern Lights every night, and Stockholm has so much history that its hard to jam it into just a few days. Such an incredible experience and one that I recommend everyone does.

Flights: $407 AUD for two people

Price includes return flights from Dublin to Stockholm and one return internal flight from Stockholm to Lulea.

Ryanair logo featuring a stylised yellow harp and the brand name 'RYANAIR' in blue.
Logo of Norwegian Air, featuring the word 'norwegian' in bold red letters with a stylised aircraft icon.

Accommodation: $2,670 AUD

It’s important to be aware that Sweden is EXPENSIVE to visit. Accommodation in Stockholm reasonable for a captial city, however our accommodation in Kalix was a higher price because we stayed in glass igloos. See below a break down of each booking, all of which were secured by booking.com.

Quality Hotel, Lulea

Skog Aurora Igloos, Kalix

Scandic Gamla Stan, Stockholm

$210 AUD (1 night)

$1600 AUD (3 nights)

$860 AUD (4 nights)

Tours: 400 euro per person

Dog sledding- booked through Skog Aurora Igloos and operated by Future Sled Dogs.

Cost: 199 Euro per person

A view from a dog sled on a snowy landscape with several dogs pulling the sled across a frozen lake, surrounded by a forest of trees in the background under a clear blue sky.
A misty forest scene at night, with tall, illuminated trees surrounded by an orange glow.

Sauna and spa experience- booked through Skog Aurora Igloos.

Cost: 200 Euro per person

Car Hire: $190 AUD

For our Lulea / Kalix part of the trip, we hired a Skoda from Budget Car Rental Lulea for 4 days. The car was a mini SUV, which was perfect for some of the longer drives, and it handled the icy roads with no problem
